- Vibraphonist, arranger and conductor, Cum Laude graduated from Berklee College of Music (Boston), he also holds a Bachelor Degree in Music from UNESP (São Paulo State University) and a Master Degree in Fine Arts from UNICAMP (Campinas State University). He has a curriculum with a large musical activity in teaching and performing. - He studied piano with Elizabeth Rangel, Roberto Sabbag and Pietro Maranca; drums with João Ariza (Chumbinho) and Rubens Barsotti (CLAM/Zimbo Trio); percussion with John Boudler and Alexis Herrera; arranging, composition and conducting with Damiano Cozzella, H.J. Koellreutter and Valerye Taylor, respectively; and vibrafone with Ed Saindon, Mike Mainieri, Jean Baptiste Boclé, Dave Samuels and Gary Burton. - He is a conductor and a teacher of theory at CORALUSP since 1988, and also taught music theory, ear training and performance at UNICAMP for ten years (1990 to 2000). - Very active in both popular and classical music, he already performed in many Brazilian and European cities, as well as in Japan and United States, having shared the stage with distinguished musicians (Gilberto Gil, Milton Nascimento, Célia, Hermeto Paschoal, Bob Becker, Edwin Pitre, Jair Oliveira, Edsel Gomes, Ulisses Rocha, Nico Assumpção, Hildebrando Brasil, Zé Eduardo Nazário, André Christóvam, among others). |

- As a soloist, he acted with different orchestras in Brazil and other countries, under many conductors: Alan Balter (USA), Jerry Cêcco (USA), Benito Juarez (Brazil), Lígia Amadio(Brazil), Bernardo Hernandes (Venezuela) and Roberto Farias (Brazil). On his concert repertoire, besides his transcriptions of traditional music (Mozart, Bach and Vivaldi), he also owns concertos specially written for him by great Brazilian composers: Concerto for Marimba, Vibraphone and Strings by Almeida Prado, Concerto for Marimba by Ernst Mahle, and Concerto for Vibraphone and Orchestra by Edmundo Villani-Côrtes (APCA Award – São Paulo Art Reviwers Association - 1997). - As a student, fellow musician and performer, he contributed with the composition and performance of many works from the German-born composer Hans Joachim Koellreutter (O Café, Acronom, Panthe Rhei, Koellreutter Plural, A Música Viva, Dharma, Audiogame). - He has two CD’s – “Vibrafone Solo I” and “Vibraphone Solo II” – with a repertory specially written for this work by some of the most significant Brazilian contemporary composers. - Along with the pianist and composer Edmundo Villani-Côrtes he recorded an authoral CD of Brazilian music, and performed in São Paulo and neighbour cities in a piano/vibes duo. - He recorded a CD with his vibraphone adaptations of two J.S. Bach compositions originally written for solo violin: Sonata in A minor and Partita in D minor. - He won the “Bolsa Virtuose” award (2001), offered by the Brazilian Government to distinguished artists on the musical scene in Brazil. - Besides the André Juarez Quarteto (MPB and jazz), a band which develops an expressive artistic activity, he also leads one of the eleven choirs from the CORALUSP, the funk-rock band Le Petit Comité, a vibes/piano duo with Paulo Dias (the president of the Associação Cultural Cachuera!) and, beside the Brazilian blues-man André Christóvam, the blues quartet AJAC 4. - As a side-man vibraphonist, he also performs with the singer Jair Oliveira, with the salsa band Edwin Pitre & Son Caribe, and with the Traditional Jazz Quintet of the clarinetist Tito Martino. - André Juarez is presenting his new CD “Canja”, a fusion of MPB, salsa and jazz, which counts on special participations (“canjas”) of reknown artists: Jair Rodrigues, Don Betto, Osvaldinho do Acordeon, Pepe Cisneiros, Andréas Márker, Dinho Nascimento, among many others. |
